Rutgers: Faculty Awarded Grant from New Jersey Department of Education, Office of Career Readiness

Rutgers School of Public Health Associate Professor, Dr. Derek Shendell, is the recipient of a New Jersey Department of Education Office of Career Readiness grant for the New Jersey Safe Schools Program (NJSSP), which he directs.

The New Jersey Safe Schools Program ensures New Jersey secondary public and private schools have the resources necessary to improve both student and adult (teachers and/or administrators) knowledge and raise awareness of worksite safety by providing in-person and online training to supervisory level teachers involved in delivering career and technical education.

The Program, which includes leading the only online young worker injury surveillance system and facilitating a formal multi-agency state/federal Alliance for Young Workers, is supported by the New Jersey Department of Education, New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development and U.S. Department of Labor, as administered by the Rutgers School of Public Health.
