The final report of the ASPPH Population Health Leadership Group has been released and is now available online. An accompanying slide deck is also available (PPT, PDF). The Leadership Group, co-chaired by Dean John Finnegan, University of Minnesota School of Public Health and Dr. Bob Dittus, program director, Vanderbilt University Institute for Medicine and Public Health, sought to identify and document the existing capabilities and engagement of our members in the field of population health; assess the gaps in institutional and faculty resources limiting members’ ability to advance population health; gauge external stakeholders’ perceptions of academic public health’s role in advancing population health; and recommend member and Association actions to enhance members’ ability to advance population health locally, regionally and nationally. The Leadership group undertook a detailed survey of the membership, conducted structured interviews with external stakeholders, held four regional roundtables with various sector representatives, and conducted a forum with public health faculty leaders. We believe the Leadership Group’s report will provide our members with new insights into their role in advancing population health.
The Leadership Group’s activities were supported, in part, by the ASPPH/CDC Academic Partnerships to Improve Health Cooperative Agreement. The CDC’s participation was essential to the success of the effort, and ASPPH is grateful for their financial and intellectual support.
