The University of Pittsburgh Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office will host the Health Sciences Social Justice Education Summit on Tuesday, February 28 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.

This virtual day long summit will feature health system diversity officers Dr. Margaret Larkins-Pettigrew (AHN) and Dr. James Taylor (UPMC) as plenary speakers. The summit will seek to serve as a space to introduce, build and engage health-related students, trainees, staff, and faculty in inclusive community-campus partnership. The event will allow individuals to explore the best practices for health sciences activism and learn how a culture of health and empowerment can be created through collaborative engagements.

The Summit provides space to share ways to disrupt the usual practice pathways and the status quo often reflected in campus-community partnerships. These themes will be explored through keynote speakers, featured national programs and within breakout session workshops. Discussions will revolve around what universities need to know as they form opportunities related to health equity, and how programs might underscore social justice.

The Summit is sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Health Sciences Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team, along with Summit partners: the Center on Race and Social Problems, and the Community-Engaged Scholarship Forum invite you to participate and co-share in the teaching and learning.
