Nevada, Reno: Navigator Programs Improve Colon Cancer Screening Rates Among Hard to Reach Demographics

Dr. Paul Devereux, associate professor of social and behavioral health at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Community Health Sciences, recently published “Using Community Engagement and Navigators to Increase Colon Cancer Screenings and Patient Outcomes” in Health Promotions Practices. Dr. Devereux and his team concluded that there is a statistically significant increase in colon cancer screening in hard to reach demographics and improvement in bowel preparation in males associated with an evidence-based navigator program.

Dr. Devereux’s research interests focus primarily on social and behavioral health with an emphasis on cancer screening interventions, the effects of social support on overall health and wellness, and the emotional health of elderly populations.
