NAFSA: Association of International Educators is pleased to partner with the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health to provide two events designed to help faculty members and academic leaders explore ways of incorporating global learning opportunities into programming.

Thursday, May 28 NAFSA Global Learning Colloquium for the Health Professions

Education for the health professions is deeply focused on questions of global learning. Public health and global health already engage students with important themes of interdependence, interconnection, systems thinking, problem-solving, and community engagement.

How can we make these overlapping commitments a more intentional and integrated part of health education — for graduate students and undergraduates? What lessons can we learn from parallel efforts to define global learning outcomes for all students? What kinds of assignments and experiences lead to the desired learning? What evidence do we have that our practices are effective?

Friday, May 29, 2015 NAFSA Global Learning Colloquium on Human Rights

As the United Nations finalizes work on its new sustainable development goals, higher education has a key role to play in providing students with the tools to help achieve these goals, with the provision of human rights for all a priority.

This colloquium will explore how issues surrounding human rights require both global and cross-disciplinary cooperation in pursuit of solutions, and may provide a key framework that enhances global learning. Experts will facilitate discussion around how the principles of problem-based learning can be applied to incorporate human rights education into curricula across the disciplines.
