A paper by Dr. Zui Narita, a doctoral student in the department of mental health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, was recently featured in Science Trends. The article, written by Dr. Narita, summarized a paper he and a research team published this summer in the Journal of Psychiatric Research. In their pilot study, the team examined using direct current stimulation on schizophrenia. The study demonstrated a correlation between activity in left temporoparietal cortical regions and the ability of tDCS to treat psychotic symptoms in schizophrenia. Dr. Narita’s study suggests that NIRS provides a biomarker of the utility of tDCS in the treatment of schizophrenia.
