Johns Hopkins: Faculty Receives Grant from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation to Study Lowering Health Care Prices in the Private Sector

Dr. Jerry Anderson, professor in the department of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, has received a $758,049 grant from the Laura and John Arnold Foundation. His team will work with state governments to help private insurers negotiate better prices. Public insurers (i.e., Medicare and Medicaid) set the prices they pay, while the private insurers have little negotiating power. Private health-care prices often double what Medicare and Medicaid pay.
