Iowa: Ag Center Provides Resources for Cold Weather Hazards

The Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health, one of eleven agricultural safety and health centers funded by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), recently released a set of seasonal safety resources to help agricultural workers — and others who venture outdoors during winter — better understand and prevent cold weather hazards.

The new series of handouts, banners, and social media posts cover a variety of winter time topics, such as hypothermia, frostbite, and minimum ice thickness recommendations for anyone planning to travel or recreate on ice-covered waters. The materials also provide helpful reminders and tips to safely navigate freezing conditions, including dressing in layers, selecting appropriate clothing materials, and use of ice cleats on footwear.

Check out all the Great Plains Center’s cold weather hazard resources.
