Georgia Southern Students Receive Awards from Rural Health Conference

Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health Georgia Southern University MPH Epidemiology students (JPHCOPH), Ms. Elizabeth B. Blankenship, Ms. Elizabeth Goff, and Mr. Jimmy Jenkins, mentored by Dr. Isaac Fung, and Dr. Kelly Sullivan, assistant professors of epidemiology, accepted first place award for an outstanding student poster presentation at the 17th Annual Rural Health Conference at The University of Alabama. The poster, “Influence of Social Media on the Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in Southeast Georgia,” was one of three presented by JPHCOPH at the conference.

JPHCOPH was represented by two additional MPH Epidemiology student presentations at the conference. “Complementary and Alternative Medicine Prevalence and Patterns in the Southeastern United States,” was presented by Ms. Ashley M. Jackson, Ms. Lindsay A. Mullican, and Mr. Jordan H. Gizzle, and “Use of Complementary and Alternative Medicine in People with Heart Disease in Southeast/Rural Georgia” presented by Ms. Chimuanya Okoli, Ms. Sewuese Akuse, and Ms. Stacy Carswell, both mentored by Dr. Kelly Sullivan.
