The University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health’s Department of Biostatistics is celebrating 70 years! Join alumni, friends, faculty and current students to reflect on past achievements and current research endeavors.
Alumnus Dr. F. DuBois Bowman (PhD, 2000, biostatistics), now dean and professor at the University of Michigan School of Public Health, will deliver the luncheon keynote on Monday, Oct. 28. Dr. Bowman is a distinguished researcher whose scholarship focuses on improving mental health and neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease and depression.
Dr. Dennis Gillings, former professor of biostatistics at the Gillings School, will provide remarks during the dinner keynote on Oct. 28. Dr. Gillings is the founder and former chairman of Quintiles, a clinical research company which merged with IMS Health to become IQVIA.
The 2-day celebration conference will feature faculty, alumni and student speakers. Session topics include machine learning, causal inference, clinical trials and statistical genetics.
The celebration also will include tours of the Gillings School, an alumni panel and a poster session showcasing students’ cutting-edge research, .
