AUB: Dean Iman Nuwayhid and former Dean Huda Zurayk Publish a Comment in “The Lancet” on Political Determinants of Health and Wellbeing in Lebanese Uprising

For over a month now, protests have been taking place in squares all over Lebanon, as well as in front of government institutions such as the parliament, the central bank, Electricity of Lebanon, telecommunication companies, and private residences of select politicians. At a time of severe economic crisis, health and wellbeing, and their political determinants have been at the heart of the protesters’ demands.​ In a comment to The Lancet, Dean Iman Nuwayhid and former Dean Huda Zurayk of the American University of Beirut – Faculty of Health Sciences, Graduate Public Health Program described the historical and current background of the ongoing uprising in Lebanon which is denouncing sectarianism, clientelism, and corruption and demanding good governance for better health care and equitable access to social services. The comment underscores the interlinkages between politics, health, and wellbeing.
