Albany Alumnus Awarded Ellis Island Medal of Honor

Dr. Kamiar Alaei, the founding director of the Global Institute for Health and Human Rights at the University at Albany and an alumnus of the University at Albany School of Public Health, was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor on Saturday, May 9, at a ceremony at Ellis Island.  This award, given each year by the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), recognizes individuals who have demonstrated integrity through an honorable act, contributions and commitment to humanitarian causes, and that preserve and celebrate their ethnic heritage while upholding the ideals and spirit of America.
